blender 2.5/2.6 irix

Post by radiance » Wed Jun 13, 2018 9:15 am

Hey,

I wanted to ask someone on nekochan this,
but since that's down, maybe this place is worth a shot...

So a few years ago a bunch of people tried to make builds of blender 2.5 and newer on irix but did'nt succeed, and as a result only the old 2.4x and earlier versions are around on irix.

Does anyone remember what the reason was ? probably some dependencies weren't compatible anymore i assume, or the 2.5 branch added new dependencies that did'nt compile or exist on irix 6.5

Can anyone remember what the issue was ?
If there's no immediate/massive problem, i'd like to give it another serious effort and see if i can get it to compile...
I was thinking at starting with 2.68 instead of 2.7 as it does'nt have all the openshadinglanguage stuff.

Thanks for any help,
Terrence

Hello

i have ask this some years ago, and it's about an issue around libc if i have currectly understood.
Maybe an openGL issue too, lastest blender's version require OpenGL2.0 al at least

Cheers

Damn, i've been away from the blender community too long i guess,
that OGL 2.0 is a real bummer...
Do you happen to know when they made the switch (at what exact version) ?
If there is say a 2.5 or 2.6 verion that still uses OGL 1.x I might try that one...

Thanks,
Terrence

I managed to find a post on a forum where someone says the change to OGL 2.1 was made at version 2.77
So i might try to get 2.76 to build...Or something earlier, we'll see...

I think any version above 2.4x, even with stuff like cycles disabled, would be a big advancement...

it might take me a while if I need to make a lot of changes ;)

Apart from the openGL 2.0 requirement for later blender versions, Python3 was a big dependency issue, and had to be ported first in 2010 in order to start a blender port. I can't find the thread right now, but we contacted the developer who wanted to do the port and it turns out that his drive crashed.

I already got python 3.6.5 compiled last night,
I had to change some clock defs from CLOCK_MONOTONIC to CLOCK_SGI_CYCLE,
and then it compiled after a few more fixes in the make system.
It built fine I just need to test that clock change stuff first though ;)

I am going to start work building the next deps tonight (i';ve a feeling this will take weeks ;) ),
at this time there is but one thing i am scared of and that's the newer libc stuff computron mentioned...

if it does'nt require 1000's of edits I hope to be able to get stuff to build ;)

let's see ;)

Hi Radiance,

would you have a tutorial / instructable on this? i'm not a wizard with a compiler toolchain, but i would love to (re)start using blender on my irix machine.

the 1.* version of blender are too outdated, a 2.3 blender port would be great, a 2.7 even better as those are the historical major moments of new feature introductions!

i'm very curious on this topic!

At the very least, 2.45 was the last official release: http://download.blender.org/release/Blender2.45/

any chance you can post the source for your python build?

And good luck with Blender!

Hey,

I had to switch to python 3.2 as I ended up with some unbuildable modules in 3.6.5...
I'm still working on it, bit by bit ;)
