6.5.22 upgrade

Post by tenox » Sat Jul 21, 2018 3:55 am

I have SGI Indy on which I installed 6.5 from physical CDs. I also have tarballs for 6.5.22. Can someone enlighten me how do I actually upgrade to 6.5.22? Can I just extract them and mount over NFS and use Software Manager to upgrade? Or do I have to use inst / boot from the tools cd?

Thanks!

You can upgrade them by mounting and exposing them over NFS
I'm the manager

Besides irix.cc, I run these sites:

Thank you! But how do you facilitate the upgrade process? Do I just use software manager or do I need to boot from tools cd and use inst? I also see that I can run inst from the OS? I also read that I have to install some patches prior to upgrade to 6.5.22. Isn't there any guide available for this?

To upgrade the OS, you can use either Software Manager or inst (depending on whether you want a GUI or command line interface) from within an existing installation of 6.5.x. You only have to boot from the CD and use inst from there to do a fresh install (i.e., to install 6.5.22 from scratch on a system with no OS running).

Patch 5086, which is an updated inst program, must be installed first if you're upgrading from 6.5.19 or earlier.

Thank you! This is great. Exactly what I wanted to know. I somehow could not find it anywhere on the internet.
