Octane Revived

Post by GRudolf94 » Fri Jun 08, 2018 2:05 pm

:Octane: has come back from the dead. I had acquired it unresponsive to power button presses, dead console, would just spin fans endlessly when plugged in.

Posting it all here might get heavy, so I will just link my post on a public facebook group, if that's ok.

Is there anything specific that you might have done?
I have an octane that has the exact same issue (plug it in, powers on automatically, fan spins, but no light... no display.. nothing)

IT was powered up the other day for a few hours after being in storage for almost a decade..
and after I shut it down.. it wouldn't come alive up again.. fans spin.. nothing happens.. (I really wanted to upgrade IRIX)

my system board also has wire patched areas identical to yours.. I have continuity tested them to make sure they were still connecting. they were.

I'm going to continue to look for some bent pins, but I don't see any.

I really would like to get this machine up and running again.

Just straightened the pins on the frontplane that were bent, and cleaned the machine. It has developed a bad RAM stick today, but has been working almost flawlessly other than that. If you need any help just give me a shout

Hey. Im having a similar problem, when I power my machine the keyboard leds light up for a second, then the fans start spinning. No video, no serial coms, no leds from the bar. With no front cover i can see an array of 4 and 3 vertical leds but thats it. any clues?
EDIT: I checked the ports and i had 2 bent pines as well, one didnt survive the straigtening. :(
