Re: Latest purchase?
It has nothing to do with computers, the last thing of significance that I bought was this Caitheness paperweight:

Re: Latest purchase?
Just won on eBay, 3 Alesis ADAT Xt units.. local collection not far, price not bad.

Having checked these out on you tube, they do look rather cool, 8 tracks on a SVHS tape, but also, I hoping they will work well with the adat from SGI machines. Converting to and from analogue.

Also purchased a new Sony Betacam Digital system to go along the Betacam SP machine and this rather cool LCD monitor that connects to Camcorders or such devices.. I suppose anything with a sVideo output.

Re: Latest purchase?
My latest acquisitions: a 2x 600MHz CPU for an Octane (spare), a spare dual R14K node for my Onyx2 and 52 glass fibers of various lengths and types in order to finish wiring up my computer room.

I just finished wiring up a patch panel with 48 CAT53 cables attached (> 550m total length), this will hopefully be installed early next week, but I have some other (non-computer hobby related) things that need my attention as well...

When all the wiring is in place I will have serial console and ethernet to every system, many will have FDDI and/or FC, and power to every system will be remotely switchable using my APC PDUs. Theoretically, I would even be able to power up the 4D/380 VGX rack from the other side of the planet, but in reality it just means I won't have to bend over to reach the breaker switches on the back of the desksides Smile

Re: Latest purchase?
Received or waiting to arrive, the following parts:

- Antec S10 (Signature) case. Not sure what to say, it looks more like a prototype/nice idea rather than something that would belong to any company's "signature" line. Good points: all doors are on hinges and open like real doors, simply and robustly; case has 3 separate intakes of air; and overall is "interesting". Bad points: accessories are very shy; side panels are robust but fit together like an experiment; the case has no full-depth 5.25" slots; the overall look, while having interesting aspects, is not stunning. The panels were also dusty and whiteish from some kind of residue, but the package came with a polyester cloth which cleaned it beautifully, so that was definitely a high point of the whole thing.

- Intel Optane 900P PCIe NVMe disk
- Crucial memory (2x8GB), CT2K8G4RFS8266.000 2-8GB DDR4-2666 RDIMM 1.2V CL19
- Antec 1300W PSU
- Talos mainboard + CPU

Re: Latest purchase?
Not technically a "purchase," but I got this 14" Packard Bell CRT free from an estate sale in Asheboro, NC last weekend. It cleaned up nicely and is in excellent condition for its age, but since I don't collect Packard Bell stuff I'm going to give it to a North Carolina retrotech YouTuber named Billy Coore, who is a PB aficionado.

HP LaserJet 5M. It has a Postscript module so it is compatible with SGIs.

I am probably posting from moose, SGI O2 with R10k/250, 1GB RAM,  and running IRIX 6.5.27
