what does the sw_mount.log say?

btw were you ever playing around with any config files in the sw/cfg directory? did you *ever* change the IP address of the Tezro?

This is starting to become a little bit frustrating!

I suppose I will just have to buy a stone then! (When I can afford one, that is!)

I recall telling you sw_config can be a real pain! I think your starting to feel it too..

anyway, there is another step you can try, but its a bit more of a pain. Lets go with the assumption some sort of config is messed up somewhere. Maybe you can try to uninstall flame, delete the /usr/discreet dir, and reinstall fresh from scratch and try again.

Do you always log in as the flame user? Do you have your files in the dir?

If so I would recommend doing something like this

copy all your files you want to keep to another users dir

(as root) copy the contents of the discreet dir *just in case*
Code:
cp -rp /usr/discreet /usr/discreetBKUP
uninstall flame and stone+wire via swmgr
once everything is uninstalled and moved, delete all of /usr/discreet (you only have flame2008 installed correct? if not don't do this)
Code:
rm -rf /usr/discreet
btw please don't copy/paste this command, its the worse command anyone can do in a unix system, type it out. if you somehow mis-click and copy/paste the wrong stuff you are 110% fucked
reinstall flame and try the steps again

Re: AUTODESK FLAME 2008 SERVICE PACK 6
I installed all of my other software from the root account.

maya saved some stuff to the flame directory though.

I will copy the relevant files from the flame directory, uninstall and try again.

Just confirm what I should answer, when flame asks whether you want to make com 1 available for flame?

I don't like to do that. It means you can't use com1 as the serial port because flame took it over (I think they did it because they used up a serial port for a dongle, and one port needs to be for a tablet, then the another port would be for a VTR, and so not much room for a console port)

I've just uninstalled Flame and am restarting the system now.

I checked and all of my other programs still work after flame was uninstalled.

I will answer no to that question then.

Re: AUTODESK FLAME 2008 SERVICE PACK 6
I also think that that installing.flame from scratch would be best idea. I think that troubles with mounting sw partition have something to do with improper permisions (running sw_config from root account). But remember you must "clear" sw label on drive before (fx with syncing label to standard sgi label. If not you will not be able to save sw label again (this is required to to create and save partition data). As gijoe stated above:
1. Fx dive
2. Uninstall flame, sw, etc... remove discreet directory
3 restart system
4. Install flame again
5. Reboot
6. Log to flame2008sw account
7. After installing any of discreet software I always have to chkconfig desktop on (with root permissions), because by default desktop is switched off for all users
8. Logout and login again
9. In xwsh console window, which is open by default after login (to flame account) go as gijoe stated above: su, sw_config with create..., during sw_start partition should auto mount.
