Re: What's a good SGI machine to start with?

Onyx 1 Reality Engine 2 Rack would be a great starter system. I would go with quad R10000s. The only problem is, you wouldn't be able to run the clothes dryer while you were computing :)

Re: What Sun Microsystems Hardware do you have?

I can’t remember exactly, but I think:

2x enterprise 3000s with veritas lics
V890 with veritas lics
V440 with veritas lics
The above all have xinet kashare licensed

Ipx (I think.. is that the little one?)
A sun station can’t remember the model, has a 75mhz cpu
Blade desktop.

Re: Which SUN machine is your favourite and why?

My favorite sun system has to be the enterprise 3000 line. I love the look of those.

Re: Monitor fantasy

Yea, that is what I am wondering. I am sure it would be easy to disassemble the LCD, take the plastic skins and scan them. Make some modifications for the sgi cube logo recess in the proper place. Print them out and then paint them. If they did use some sort of mixture, then that is the secret. I wo...

Monitor fantasy

I have a fantasy of being able to use an LCD Dell monitor with my SGI systems that have granite skins. With 3d printer technology now, it seems this may not be as hard as I thought years ago. I have granite monitors, external drives, keyboards, etc.... Did they paint them with bits of different colo...

Re: hdd upgrade: Acard scsi to ssd or 50 pin scsi to sd card?

I have all of those, I was thinking more of as those die off. Years ago when we decomm'd all of the old dell 2950s, I snatched tons of SCA drives. Some from other systems too. They are great, but won't last forever.

hdd upgrade: Acard scsi to ssd or 50 pin scsi to sd card?

Why are these things acard devices so expensive? 1000 bucks? I am guessing because there are ancient systems in use and businesses will drop a grand to keep them going. Anyone every used one of these? I would like to convert my old hdds over to something a little less power hungry, loud, and hot. Wh...

Re: Nekochan? the future?

Thanks Kazuo. I hope we can at least get a DB dump of the forum. It would be really bad if we were to lose all of that data. I am not sure if our community would ever be able to duplicate that level of information. What are hosting costs looking like per year? I would be willing to chip in.
