Re: Writing CD-Roms compatible with IRIX

You might need "Rock Ridge" extensions rather than "Joliet". If Windows can't see long filenames either, then you've used no extensions. If Windows can see long filenames, you're already using Joliet, as gijoe77 suggested. (Plain ISO9660 CD-ROM filesystems only support 8.3 filenames.) Back in the da...

Re: "-woff all" breaks or makes compilation?

The entire autoconfig/config/make toolset is rather confusing to me. I'm slowly working my way through the GNU make manual. Heh, I consider most of that stuff to be "read only". I can follow the logic of configure scripts to find out what's going wrong, but don't ask me to set one up! I'd rather ha...

Re: Tools you wish to have?

What do I wish to have, or what do I wish to have that I could actually use ? I'd love a good soldering station like the one in the original post, and might actually get some use out of it. I'd also love an HP 16702 logic analyzer and a good, vintage Tektronix analog oscilloscope (465 or 475, I thin...

Re: "-woff all" breaks or makes compilation?

Well, the error about '-pthread' when compiling gftp is no surprise. That's a GCC compiler option that's of no use for the SGI compiler. Either something pertaining to pthreads was mis-detected during the 'configure' phase, or something is hardcoded to assume that everyone will be using GCC. Both ca...

Re: pthreads not found with newest xz 5.2.4?

Then I went and added all your CFLAGS + "--disable-shared" - and indeed it no longer picks up pthreads (and of course doesn't build a shared library either). Hmm ... that might be because libpthread is only available as a shared library (.so file) on IRIX. There isn't a static libpthread.a to use t...

Re: Some compilation info

The symbol '__sgi' (not '__sgi__') is defined when compiling c code under IRIX. I'm not sure if gcc will set that define Yes, GCC does define it too. It's my preferred way of identifying IRIX-specific code. so lets say I have "__sig__" in my code, can i "trigger" this code by doing a "-D__sgi__" in...

Re: Wires wires wires

I can't figure out how you have the patience to do all that work so neatly. I always start out with good intentions, but my energy and interest levels rapidly drop before a quarter of the work gets done. I get frustrated, leave a half-finished mess, and run new cabling in whatever manner is quickest...

Re: Some compilation info

ok I think I might have figured something out. I just noticed that those bzlib.h unresolved symbols are only happeneing with mipspro and not gcc, so I re-ran everything using gcc, it appears not to see/use the nekoware/include/bzlib.h at all: export CC=/usr/nekoware/gcc-4.7/bin/gcc export CXX=/usr/...

Re: 6.5.22 upgrade

To upgrade the OS, you can use either Software Manager or inst (depending on whether you want a GUI or command line interface) from within an existing installation of 6.5.x. You only have to boot from the CD and use inst from there to do a fresh install (i.e., to install 6.5.22 from scratch on a sys...

Hah, I didn't even know there was a PowerPC version of Solaris.
Yes, 2.5.1. It's available on-line in various places if you Google for it. It only runs on a small subset of PowerPC systems though.
